Welsh Water Approves Uponor's Puriton
Barrier Pipe
Dwr Cymru Welsh Water has joined the growing number of utilities that have approved the use of Uponor's impressive new barrier pipe system, Puriton, on brownfield and contaminated land.
The system was launched by Uponor early last year and a number of trials were carried out during 2003 by companies like Severn Trent Water, one of the first to approve the system for use on all its contaminated land sites South East Water approved Puriton last September after successful trials and has already completed six Puriton installations in the first four months of this year

Uponor's new range of tapping tees for Puriton barrier pipe system means the company offers a complete system of pipes and fittings for the conveyance of potable water through contaminated land sites.
South East Water Selects Uponor's Puriton
South East Water recently trialled Uponor's Puriton barrier pipe for the installation of a new water main on a contaminated site.
Mid-Kent Water also recently approved the use of the system and several installations are being carried out.
Uponor's Chris Greaves was delighted with the rapid take-up by water companies seeking a highly effective solution to the problem of making safe potable water through contaminated ground: "This system offers the best protection possible as it is completely sealed, does not require wrapping, and is easy to install.
We think more companies will select Puriton as the safest choice when there is any danger of contaminants being present in the ground." The explosion of interest in the contaminated land issue, and attempts by the Government to encourage significantly more brownfield building, have led to increased demand for specialised products like Puriton.
Demand for specialist products is also likely to be further fuelled after the recent report by Bank of England economist Kate Barker on how building an additional 140,000 new homes on top of the present 175,000 per year would help stem house price rises and associated inflation by effectively flooding the market, particularly in hot spots like London and the south-east, with new homes.
Puriton's inner and outer plastic layers offer the same benefits as standard PE water pipes, plus flexibility, eliminating corrosion and encrustation and reducing head losses.
It is available in diameters from 25 to 110mm, and comes in straight lengths or coils.
All Puriton fittings are designed to give full barrier protection across the joints with no need for additional wrapping after installation, and the service pipe can be bent and formed using the same techniques as for copper pipes, thereby saving installation costs and materials.
