Uponor Ultra Fortis plastic sewer pipe
approved
Thames Water and Southern Water have approved the use of Uponor?s new sewer pipe, Ultra Fortis.
Pipe manufacturer Uponor gained the water companies' approval after developing the structured solid wall sewer pipe to resist up to 4000psi water jetting pressure when jetted in accordance with Water Industry Specification 4-35-01: July 2000 The all-new Ultra Fortis system was launched to UK water companies in March and is described by Uponor as the industry's highest performing structured solid wall sewer pipe ever developed in response to specific industry requirements

Structured solid wall thermoplastic sewer pipe
Uponor's Ultra Fortis, the world's first structured solid wall thermoplastic sewer pipe, meets stringent Kitemark certification and resists water jetting pressures of up to 4000 psi
Ultra Fortis has already achieved BSI Kitemark approval to WIS 4-35-01 for 150mm and 300mm diameters and other diameters are currently being evaluated for approval.
Thames Water's Technical Consultant (Sewerage) Don Ridgers confirmed in writing: "the acceptance, in principle, by Thames Water, for the use of the Uponor Ultra Fortis non-pressure gravity sewer system in Section 102 and Section 104 (sewer installations) of the 1991 Water Industry Act and Thames Water's own capital works schemes".
Southern Water's Sewerage Strategy Manager Barry Luck confirmed that Southern Water would be amending its requirements in relation to structured wall plastic pipes, and that approval was given for the use of Ultra Fortis in 150mm and 300mm diameters.

4000 psi-resistant plastic sewer pipe launched
Uponor launches a structured solid wall sewer pipe capable of withstanding up to 4000 psi* water jetting pressure.
Uponor UK managing director Stuart Godfrey said: "This is great news after all our development work".
"The excellent jetting resistance of Ultra Fortis will provide water companies with the confidence they need to once again reinstall this type of plastic sewer pipe and we're particularly pleased that Thames and Southern have reconsidered their previous restrictions".
Ultra Fortis is a high performance system, designed for use in non-pressure gravity sewer applications.
It offers excellent resistance to high pressure jetting, whilst being robust and light in weight.
A three-metre length of 300mm diameter Ultra Fortis weighs less than 25kg, significantly reducing the requirement for mechanical handling.
It has a brown outer surface for ease of identification, and a blue inner.
Ultra Fortis is available with a comprehensive range of socketed fittings and adaptors to alternative materials.
Jointing is easy with a high performance non-handed sealing ring that is externally captive and securely located between the second and third ribs of the pipe, with no requirement for chamfering the pipe spigot prior to jointing.
The three-metre pipe lengths also mean fewer joints.
The pipes smooth internal bore ensures excellent flow and self-cleansing characteristics.
Joint flexibility allows up to 2.5 degrees' deflection at each ring seal joint.
