Thermal efficiency from insulated panels
Jablite profile roof panels by Vencel Resil were chosen for Worcester College of Technology, based in Malvern.
A building that will be used as a training centre for the construction industry needs to have all the right material specifications and this is one of the reasons why Jablite profile roof panels by Vencel Resil were chosen for Worcester College of Technology, based in Malvern.
The project involved the re-roofing and refurbishment of an existing building with 2,300 m2 of 100 grade EPS panels supplied in conjunction with membrane manufacturer Polyglass Limited based in the West Midlands to the main contractor General Asphalte.
"What's unique about this project is that the expanded polystyrene panels were moulded to fit exactly the shape and design of the existing corrugated roof," explains Mick Pinfold, regional sales manager for Vencel Resil.
"The client was looking for improved thermal performance of the building and the profile panels will provide highly effective insulation to prevent heat escape as well as forming a flame-retardant barrier to prevent spread of fire.
The panels worked perfectly in conjunction with the bituminous felt supplied by Polyglass, creating a very effective watertight seal to the roof." Jablite profile is a bespoke insulation material that is designed and manufactured to match exactly existing roofing and cladding systems.
The product is popular with roofing contractors and specifiers alike as it is offers a high level of thermal performance and is quick and simple to install.
The product is designed for insulating new or existing roofs or for increasing the performance of buildings with insufficient insulation.
Having worked with Vencel Resil on other projects, Polyglass was confident of the product's performance and the company's responsive service, as Peter Baker of Polyglass explains: "The existing corrugated asbestos panels needed upgrading and Jablite profile panels, when combined with our bitumen surface, provided the perfect solution.
The extensive new roof will now provide the necessary thermal performance to meet the client's requirements.
This was a major project which was successfully completed because of a collaborative working arrangement between General Asphalte, Vencel Resil and ourselves to devise a bespoke and highly effective solution for the client." Manufactured from expanded polystyrene, Jablite profile panels are lightweight and easy to handle and have been specified on many prestigious schools, colleges and commercial buildings around the UK.
