Hackney Homes invests in VEKA improvements

Three VEKA window fabricators are celebrating the news that Hackney Homes, the borough's housing body, has been awarded Two-Star rating for its improved services to residents.

The award, from the Audit Commission, will see nearly 100,000 windows and doors installed by the end of 2012 and will safeguard the future role of Sovereign Group, Ashford Windows and Piper Double Glazing in the Decent Homes project.

Hackney Homes's achievement will benefit around 7,000 residents in the borough where more than half the population live in social housing.

GBP190million has already been spent on making council homes decent in Hackney with investments in windows, roofs and other external improvements.

Rupert Tyson, Chair of Hackney Homes, said of the award: "Not only does this rating confirm that Hackney Homes is providing a high quality service for residents, it also means we can continue on the progress already being made with the Decent Homes improvements programme.

"It is a great leap forward for the borough and a clear sign that Hackney is becoming a better, safer and cleaner place to live, work and play".

Trevor Ranns, VEKA Commercial Sales Manager, said the contract gave Hackney Homes a number of bespoke benefits including a dedicated Contract Manager, full planning service, survey and installer training and extended product guarantees.

VEKA has also set up an on-line contract management service which allows the client to view live progress of projects as well record future maintenance programmes, identification of components for individual windows in case of repair and a direct link to Fensa to confirm registration.

This facility is unique to the Hackney contract.

He added: "We have also agreed to recycle all the old windows using our own in-house facilities in the UK and Germany.

Hackney Homes are keen to ensure that the programme is as sustainable as possible".

The contract was awarded to the three fabricators plus a fourth, Paramount Windows, as reserve.
