Version One has identified that UK organisations are still contributing significantly to global warming by needlessly printing alarming volumes of business documents.
Following Conservative leader David Cameron's pledge to put the environment at the forefront of his policy programme, research undertaken by Version One has identified that UK organisations are still contributing significantly to the destruction of rainforests and global warming by needlessly printing alarming volumes of business documents On average, every company generates over 17,000 paper documents every month! This is equivalent to at least 49 trees EVERY year

Version One researched finance directors from over 100 organisations to determine the extent of the 'paper document' problem in UK businesses.
Despite sustainable development initiatives, the public sector generates the largest volume of paper documents with each public sector organisation producing, on average, 30,917 documents every month (371,000 per year).
These documents comprise invoices, purchase orders, statements, remittances, reports etc Of the total organisations researched, one local authority generated the greatest number of paper documents - totalling 400,000 each month.
This is an alarming 4,800,000 documents EVERY YEAR - the equivalent of 1,152 trees covering an area the size of 12 football pitches!.
"These findings are extremely disturbing", says Tony Bray, director of Version One.
"The technology is available for electronically storing, delivering and managing documents and so there is no excuse for organisations to still be printing-out hard copy documents".
"By continuing to do this, our rainforests are being needlessly destroyed".
"It's encouraging that David Cameron promises to focus upon the environment in his policy programme but we need more than words".

Bray continues, "Manually filing, posting, faxing and approving hard copy documents also leads to enterprise-wide inefficiency".
