Ultra-violet disinfection effective in tests

Hospital tests have shown that the Bacticlean ultra-violet disinfection system from Victory Lighting will effectively reduce air-borne contamination in hospital theatre and ward situations within minutes.

Methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus contamination counts were significantly reduced after just 10 minutes from the system being switched on.

These controlled laboratory tests gave a Log10 reduction 3, which was cut to 1.33 when the Bacticlean unit was switched off.

The readings were taken at one, five and ten minute intervals at a temperature of 20 deg C (+/- 1 deg C) and contamination was reduced significantly at each time segment.

Available with a single ultra-violet element (36W) or twin element (72W), the unit draws air in and then reduces the flow so that it passes over the ultra-violet elements slowly for maximum disinfection efficiency before it is discharged back into the room.

Filters also remove particulates.

A single unit, normally wall mounted, will cover about 95 cubic metres but multiple installations can be used to cope with bigger areas.

The unit is approximately 150mm deep x 390mm high x 460mm wide.

Victory can also supply separate ultra-violet emitters, including waterproof units, for other hospital applications.

Different sizes can be designed and manufactured to order.
