New award category for this year's LEAF Awards

This year's Emirates Glass LEAF Awards has added a brand new award category for 2009, Master Planning and Landscaping.

This award focuses on development into urban areas to create quality living areas, improve access to services and protect rural areas.

The Emirates Glass LEAF Awards take place on 4 September 2009 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Berlin, Germany and showcases buildings and design from across the world.

The Master Planning and Landscaping award is one of nine categories at this year's award ceremony, award categories include:.

- Mixed-Use Building of the Year - recognising projects that combine both residential and commercial functions.

- Residential Building of the Year - recognising that residential buildings can be very different this award is divided into multiple level building and single storey building.

- Commercial Building of the Year.

- International Interior Design Award - either new build or refurbishment.

- Young Architect.

- Best Sustainable Development.

- Public Building.

- Best Structural Design of the Year.

- And the overall LEAF Awards winner.

Simona Kastly, the awards director adds "We are very excited to be able to include the Master Planning and Landscaping award category which celebrates those projects that have best understood the needs of the community and created quality living areas".

The deadline for award entries is June 26 after this date each award entry will be judged by an esteemed panel and shortlisted for the awards.
