Health and safety awards for Wavin

Wavin, leading supplier of water management, plumbing and drainage systems, wins five top industry awards for major improvements in health and safety.

The Pledge Awards are bestowed by the British Ceramics Confederation to raise the profile of Health and Safety across the industry.

Wavin achieved one award for raising the profile of health and safety within the company through its Forest Works Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Committee and another for improvement in the reduction of accidents from manual handling at its sites.

Individual awards were presented to two long-serving employees at the Wavin Forest Works and Hazlehead sites, for 'most effective employee in the field of health and safety'.

With fifty years' experience between them, Simon Smith and Peter Coldwell have demonstrated an indisputable commitment to improving health and safety at Wavin, advocating continuous improvement through behavioural auditing.

A fifth award was presented to engineering contractor Fulwood Fabrications for its contribution in health and safety on the Calcine Project, a major installation project at Wavin's Hazlehead site involving technical and physical constraints.

This included extensive joint health and safety preparation work, overcoming issues such as working at height, manual handling and mobile plant.

The British Ceramics Confederation Health and Safety Pledge Awards were launched in 2001 in response to the HSE Revitalising Health and Safety Strategy.
