Watkins Hire are continuing their 'Onward and Upward' policy, steaming ahead even further and faster as the Walsall operation gathers momentum.

Two more brand new 8T trailerised 18Barg dual fuel units, fitted with the latest environmental technology burners, are being constructed at Walsall, alongside various standard containers for steam, plus hot water units to compliment the most comprehensive Hire Fleet in the UK Mark Walton, Divisional Manager, and Malcolm Pitt, Operations Manager fully supported and directed by Mark Hills, Managing Director and Roderick Williams, Sales Director, are steadily building a skilled team of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers along with support staff at Walsall

This provides an even faster response in the Midlands, as longstanding and fresh clients are experiencing in general.

In particular a recent telephone call from Sandwell General Hospital, an NHS Trust Hospital, made by Mr Kevin Reynolds, Estates Department Manager to Mark Walton, Divisional Manager of Watkins Hire, was received mid morning on a Saturday.

Kevin's request was for the availability and cost of a hot water/heating unit 'Immediately if possible'.

Kevin was looking at potentially serious situation developing over the weekend as the outside temperature was in fact 1C on that February day.

The problem was that pipe work had sprung leaks in the Heating System adjacent to and inside the building where the District Headquarters and child development accommodation are housed.

A call from Mark to the WHL Network and Director Rod Williams at HQ Gloucester immediately confirmed the availability of a suitable 200 KW heating set, a bunded fuel tank and suitably sized flexible hose in 6 metre lengths.

Transport, incorporating a Hiab for offloading, was sourced back at Walsall, priced and a proposal presented to SGH for delivery on the Sunday.

During Sunday Roger Byard, WHLs National Service Manager was liaising with all concerned to ensure continuity of the programme.

The commercial and technical proposal was accepted and WHL accepted a verbal order: all systems were put into motion resulting in almost 'a Dawn Delivery' of all the plant and ancillaries to SGH.

Kevin's Team sprang into action and installed all the services and flexible pipe work and by 'early doors' on Monday 28/2/05 the unit was duly commissioned by a WHL Engineer.

Familiarisation followed with Sandwell Staff and the plant was handed over, removing the threat of 'Cold Staff and Patients' on a Monday Morning.

Kevin, as Estates Manager, was 'delighted at the WHL response and expertise, especially over a weekend.

The above scenario depicts the overall operations available from Watkins Hire at any time in all parts of the UK, serving all industries and the public/private sectors of communities.

WHL also operate in Europe and Internationally and are expanding in these areas.

WHL are currently offering free site surveys, to include identification of locations for 'docking stations' suitable for trailerised and containerised steam or hotwater plant along with electrical generators, for use in emergency/disaster planning exercises.
