Wallingford Software's User Conference

A Wallingford Software product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Oct 6, 2003

Over 200 users from 20 countries, and 50 presentation sessions over 2 days are the impressive statistics for the latest Wallingford Software International User Conference.

Held at Wallingford Software's Howbery Park headquarters on 10th and 11th of September, the new format event successfully brought together the three streams of the integrated InfoWorks package - water, wastewater and rivers - in a single event.

The presenters included both the leading consultants in the industry, for example MWH, Hyder, Haliburton and Halcrow, and operating companies, such as Veolia, Belgium's Aminal and Aquafin, and Mexico's Comision Nacional del Agua.

The User Presentations continued the trend of recent years of topics progressing way beyond the basics of how to build and calibrate models to papers on the use of models for analysis of advanced applications, tackling operational issues as well as capital planning.

Collection systems papers included detailed examination of water quality, and the interaction of sewers and rivers.

Another presentation covered how InfoWorks is used in the different physical and regulatory environments in different countries around the world, from CMOM and CIPs in the US, AMP3 in the UK, Urban Pollution Management directives in Europe, and regulatory pressures in Japan.

Water supply presentations covered real time models related to pressure management, and the use of modeling in balancing of supply and demand.

Among the wide range of subjects in the river systems sessions were papers from Mexico, Belgium and Malaysia focusing on the issues of flooding and flood control.

Paul Banfield, Wallingford Software's Sales Director commented "The new format of bringing everyone together for the two day event was very successful, extending the opportunity for our very knowledgeable user base to meet up and exchange details of ideas and experience that can only be done face to face.

The international element is also very important - as well as the countries we have seen represented here in the past, we also saw delegates from Japan, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain, Bulgaria, Malaysia and Mexico.

"The presentations were by some of the most sophisticated and experienced users of hydraulic models from around the world, so for many people our User Conference is an increasingly important date in the industry calendar.

There is no doubt that this was our best yet".
