FloodWorks remote access to flood forecasts

FloodWorks version 4.5 adopts thin client architecture to enable access to its flood forecasts by all stakeholders via the web.

The latest release of Wallingford Software's FloodWorks real-time flood forecasting and warning system adopts thin client architecture in order that, especially in time of flood threats, its flood forecasts can be accessed by all those who need to via user's web browsers.

Hitherto forecast results have been accessible only by users with client computers running the powerful FloodWorks Event Manager software.

With the release of version 4.5, users wishing to simply view results of flood forecasts can do so by using their web browser.

FloodWorks provides real-time simulation and forecasting of hydrological and hydraulic conditions within river basins, drainage systems and the coastal zone.

Designed for operational use in the control room, FloodWorks is particularly effective for real time flood management, because it both provides forecasts of water level, flood depth and sea state for the hours or days ahead, and automatically disseminates detailed flood warnings as required by local conditions.

The remote access functionality enables a large number of authorised users to access the FloodWorks flood forecasts as required, for example in times of flood risk.

A second important development in the new version is the introduction of water quality simulation and forecasting.

Water quality becomes an issue in rivers predominantly during low flow conditions when any pollutants are not sufficiently diluted; FloodWorks v4.5 models this with the same detail and accuracy as InfoWorks RS, and additionally provides forecasts of those water quality parameters for the coming hours or days.

Paul Banfield, Sales Director of Wallingford Software, explains that the developments follow the widening application of FloodWorks by its users.
