Ward Topdek, the all-in-one single ply roofing system has been installed on a development of luxury apartments in Leicester.

Specified by contractor Advanced Roofing and Flooring , the Topdek system helped to overcome site delays caused by the discovery of Roman remains.

The original building, Sanvey Mill, overlooks the Roman wall around Leicester centre.

When the digging commenced for the project, Roman remains were uncovered causing construction to be delayed to allow an archaeological dig to take place.

The speed and ease of fitting of Topdek roofing panels helped regain some of the time lost.

Ward Topdek is a factory pre-engineered composite roof panel that comprises a high performance single-ply PVC outer membrane integrally bonded to a Firesafe rigid PIR insulation core, approved to LPBC standards, and a steel trapezoidal profile inner deck to provide structural strength.

As an all - in-one single ply roofing solution, Topdek replaces the individual processes of laying steel decking, vapour control layer, insulation board and outer membrane with one simple installation.

When compared with traditional built up roofing systems, Topdek is proving up to 50% faster to install.

A new self-coring fixing screw - unique to Topdek - speeds the installation process even further.

Over 700m of Topdek was fitted to the luxury apartments.

The building was extended upwards and required a new roofing system able to accommodate the unusual 45 degree roof feature.

Mark Dodd, contracts manager for Advanced Roofing and Flooring, commented: "The time constraints and the safety concerns over the pitch of the roof made speed and ease of installation a must for the roofing but aesthetics were important too".

"Topdek, being an all-in-one system, allowed us to fit the roof in one application unlike traditional roofing which requires three separate operations, thus reducing the inherent risks of working at height and on steep pitched structures".

"This also meant the roof was fitted much faster - making everyone happy".

"The grey colour selected complemented the age of the building and the seam effect echoed old fashioned lead for an aesthetically pleasing end result".
