Ward solutions to Building Regulations
Part L2A

Ward Insulated Panels introduce three initiatives designed to help architects, contractors, developers and building owners understand and effectively implement revised Part L regulations.

In order to help the construction industry reduce CO2 emissions by 2010, Ward Insulated Panels has introduced three initiatives designed to help architects, contractors, developers and building owners understand and effectively implement the revised Part L regulations, introduced as part of the Governments' commitment to climate change These comprise a specifiers guide on Opart L2A and the Building Envelope', a CPD seminar on the subject and a free SBEM type calculation service - all aimed at helping individuals in the industry understand how to design buildings to the new regulations and combat CO2 emissions

The Ward CPD seminar on the subject will be held across the country at the following pre-arranged venues: 10 May 2007 Marriott Hotel, Edinburgh 15 May 2007 Enterprise Arena, Coventry 4 July 2007 Royal National Hotel, London 3 October 2007 Novotel, Southampton 10 October 2007 Novotel Centre, Birmingham Ward can also present the seminar at client's own premises by arrangement.

Subjects covered include the new SBEM (simplified building energy model) tool, building air tightness, cold bridging and the introduction of building labelling.

The Ward specifiers guide O Part L2A and building envelope', concentrates on the five main steps to building compliancy and features in depth information regarding thermal bridging, limiting air leakage, ensuring compliance and thermal insulation thickness guidelines.

Finally Ward's free calculation service uses IES (virtual environment software) to analyses the proposed building by using a benchmark Onotional building' to compare and demonstrate compliancy with building regulations.

Checks are performed on U-values, heating, mechanical ventilation and cooling systems together with an assessment of measures implemented to avoid solar overheating.

The results of the analysis are suitable for inclusion in submissions to Building Control authorities.

Results indicating whether design details will pass or fail are available during the data input, speeding up the process and enabling different variables to be manipulated in order to achieve the desired result.

Another advantage of IES is that parts of the building can be analysed separately to cater for mixed use.

Results to date have proved very successful, with significant savings being made in terms of finding the optimum combination of building elements rather than simply opting for a thicker envelope.

The company manufactures a range of LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board) and FM (Factory Mutual) approved insulated roof and wall panels, all featuring a comprehensive Wardsure panel guarantee, which covers thermal and structural performance up to 25 years and coatings up to 30 years.
