Ward Topdek tops off care home project

Topdek insulated single-ply roof panels were used to roof The Guardian Care Centre, Stoke-on-Trent, as part of a major refurbishment project by building contractors Multibuild.

Ward Topdek has been used to give a private care centre in Staffordshire a new lease of life.

More than 380m2 of Topdek insulated single-ply roof panels 80mm and 100mm thick were used to roof The Guardian Care Centre, Stoke-on-Trent, as part of a major refurbishment project by building contractors Multibuild.

The new roof 'topped off' work to provide the centre, which specialises in treating patients with acute brain injuries, with a new Special Needs Care Centre and other support facilities.

Andy Worley of AMS Cladding, the roofing company that specified and installed the Topdek panels, says, "We used Ward Topdek because it offered an ideal solution for the job".

"We needed the new roof to be installed and sealed quickly and Topdek allowed us to do this much faster than conventional single ply methods." Ward Topdek is a factory pre-engineered composite roof panel that offers faster onsite assembly compared to traditional single ply roofing methods.

It comprises a high performance single-ply PVC outer membrane integrally bonded to a Firesafe rigid PIR insulation core approved to LPBC standards, and a steel trapezoidal inner deck, which provide structural support.

As an all-in-one single ply roofing solution, Topdek replaces the individual processes of laying steel roof decking, vapour control layer, insulation, and outer membrane with one simple installation, which, when compared to traditional built up roofing systems, is proving to be up to 50% faster to install.

A new self-coring fixing screw - unique to Topdek - speeds the installation process even further.

Conventional fixing required a core of insulation to be removed, a self-tapping screw to be fixed then the core replaced prior to the welding of the side-lap.

Now, in one simple operation, the self-coring screw replaces all of these three stages.

Topdek accessories include upstands, gutters, and safety anchor systems.
