Wavin Plastics has launched a new range of large diameter electrofusion couplings.

Wavin Plastics has launched a new range of large diameter electrofusion couplings which are ideally suited for pipes and fittings with outside diameters ranging from 400mm to 500mm.

The PE100 large diameter electrofusion couplings are suitable for both potable and non-potable applications and have been designed to simplify pipe installation on site.

Each coupling is constructed from two layers of PE to provide reinforcement without the need for any external wires.

Compressive stresses introduced by its assembly technique prevent the fitting expanding away from the pipe during its heating cycle.

This also allows interface pressure to be maintained and assists in ensuring weld quality.

"Our new large diameter electrofusion couplings are easy to use, offer high performance and provide a rapid and convenient means of joining polyethylene pipes," explained Denise O'Leary, Wavin Plastics' marketing manager.

"Once the fitting has been clamped joining the pipes together, an electric current passes through the coil of wire causing the polyethylene pipes to fuse to the jointing sleeve".

"The new range has also been designed to ensure optimum melt pressure as the energised coils of wire are precisely positioned to ensure uniform melting".

"This will also minimise the risk of accidental wire damage".

"In addition, as the fittings are a 'single shot' the installer is able to fuse both sides of the coupler simultaneously, unlike other products on the market, which saves valuable installation time".

The OSMA Electrofusion fittings do not require a preheating cycle, and as they are 40 volt, no special equipment is required.

Other types of fittings available require an 80 volt supply which requires a non-standard electrofusion control box with a barcode reader.

In order to simplify installation on site, the new range of couplings is provided with a barcode label for use with Automatic Fusion Machines.

This provides details of fusion times and minimum cooling time before allowing 6 bar testing.

A pop-up melt indicator also provides visual fusion verification.

Easy assembly is further enhanced as the system is a clearance fit and as such does not require any specialist tools in order to fit the coupler over the pipe.

Safety on site is also improved thanks to a covered heating wire, which means there is no direct contact with pipe.

Wavin Plastics also offers on-site training to contractors and operatives to ensure correct installation methods are followed.

These can be arranged through your sales representative or technical design department.

The product also comes with complete installation instructions.

The couplings are available in black and have 4.0mm terminal pins.

A pair of pin adaptors is also provided in each pack.

WRAS approved for potable water use, the couplings are available in a variety of sizes ranging from 355 - 500mm and weights ranging from 9.5 - 19 kg.
