Wavin on the Thames for WaterAid

Wavin Plastics has pledged its support to the annual Thames Water Raft Race that raised a total of GBP45k to help the work of WaterAid.

Wavin Plastics - the UK's leading supplier of plastic water management and drainage systems has recently pledged its support to the annual Thames Water Raft Race that raised a total of £45,000 to help the work of WaterAid The OSMA AquaCell water management infiltration units were bound together and coated with geomembrane - providing the basis of the purpose-built raft that supported a team of six volunteers in their race along the Thames

As many as forty teams built rafts, donned fancy dress, and raced a distance of 1.6km from the Reading Rowing Club near Caversham Bridge around Fry's Island and back.

The day proved to be great fun and a valuable addition to the WaterAid calendar.

Denise O'Leary, customer marketing manager from Wavin Plastics says: "We are delighted to have supported this fun event for such a worthy cause.

"Wavin is committed to helping build sustainable water supplies and sanitation systems in poverty-stricken countries through various projects including WaterAid and also through its long-standing partnership with Unicef.

"However, I'd never have imagined that this would lead to the OSMA AquaCell stormwater units providing the basic structure for a raft seen bobbing along the Thames in a race. Request a free brochure from Wavin ...

"Although raft construction was not in the original AquaCell design brief, the structure carried the team from start to finish.".
