Finding the right underfloor heating
system

Wavin Plastics advice on how to choose and install underfloor heating systems - Part 3 of 4: how to connect manifolds to your UFH system.

In a 4 part series, Karly Taylor, market manager for Wavin Plastics, gives advice on how to choose and install underfloor heating (UFH) systems, whatever the floor type, shape or size of room Wavin Plastics, a leading UK provider of water management solutions, has developed a number of clever UFH solutions to suit all applications

This week, in part 3, Karly is offering advice on how to connect manifolds to your UFH system.

Karly gives a step by step guide on how to prepare as well as carry out the various simple stages of connecting manifolds.

One of the final stages when installing a UFH systems is connecting the manifold.

Use these top tips below to install the manifold with minimum fuss: .

1] Prepare for UFH Connection.

* Fit curved pipe supports at base of wall.

* Clip pipe clamps together and fix 200mm below manifold.

* Do NOT secure pipes until all are connected.

2] Fit Air Vent.

* Fit automatic air vent release (included with manifold assembly pack) in position on top of manifold assembly.

* Fit the isolation valves.

* Loosen the dust cap at the top of the air vent approx.

2 turns.

3] Positioning Manifold.

* Locate on wall immediately above pipe tails of heating circuit(s).

* Position vertically AT LEAST 350mm above the finished floor height.

4] Connect Primary Pipes.

* Connect 22mm primary heating pipe work.

5] Identify UFH Circuits.

* Identify FLOW and RETURN for each UFH circuit.

6] Trim UFH pipe to length.

* Disconnect nut and grip ring from each port.

* Cut pipes cleanly - cut ends to align with top of brass spigot on relevant ports.

FLOW ends to lower ports.

RETURN ends to upper ports.

7] Attach UFH Pipe.

* Place nuts over pipe ends and push on grip rings.

* Push ends onto spigots, tighten nuts and secure pipe in clamps.

* Lag all exposed pipes.

8] Fill System.

* Remove covers from Return valves and fill system.

* Set thermostatic water mixing valve to MAX prior to system filling.

* Balance system.

9] Fit Actuators.

* When system balancing is complete, fit the actuators to each Return valve.

* Screw on bases first, then clip on the actuators. Request a free brochure from Wavin ...
