Acrow builds success with powder coating
Acrow Galvanizing provides long-term protection by galvanizing steel used in housing and other structural developments.
Acrow Galvanizing , of Saffron Walden - part of the Wedge Galvanizing Group - has achieved an important 'first' with its initial contract for powder coating work, which further enhances the proven long-term protection provided by galvanizing steel used in housing and other structural developments.
Acrow completed the contract as part of a major housing project for Barrett Homes overlooking the River Thames in London.
The prestigious development next to the A13 consists of a circular, 11-storey apartment building, each floor having seven large and a further 14 small balconies.
Acrow was contracted by the fabricators, Maldon Marine, to galvanize and powder coat the steel for the balcony platforms and railings - a job which Acrow's commercial representative, John Nicholson, describes as "very significant".
He says: "We have started to offer powder coating as an additional service to our normal galvanizing business and this was the first contract we worked on." He explains that the powder coating process enhances the aesthetics and longevity of the finished steel components: "Our powder coating service provides a 15-year guarantee which exceeds the normal length of our competitors' guarantees".
" That's in addition to the galvanizing process which protects for around 50 years." In total, Acrow has successfully galvanized and powder coated 46.5 tonnes of steel for the London project.
Meanwhile, Acrow galvanized well over 400 tonnes of steel during the first phase of another major housing development in Enfield, Middlesex.
The former local authority building has been converted into an impressive apartment amenity, with 50 flats per storey and its own health centre and sports facilities.
The height of the original building was raised and the frontage was completely screened with glass, using supporting steelwork.
Acrow was contracted for the Enfield project by its customer, City Steel.
