Scottish Galvanizers , of Maclellan Street, Glasgow - part of Wedge Group, the UK's largest independent galvanizing group - has played a key role in ensuring Scotland's biggest-ever Park and Ride car park facility stays on the right track for years to come.
The constructional steel sections for Strathclyde Passenger Transport's new £4.7m multi-storey car park at Shields Road subway station have been galvanized to provide long-lasting anti-corrosion protection against the elements.
The advanced galvanizing process provides a maintenance-free protection coating for 50 years or even longer.
Some 360 tons of steel, in sections up to 16.5 metres long were hot-dipped in molten zinc at Scottish Galvanizers 's modern, fully-enclosed galvanizing bath, which measures 13.4m x 1.2m x 2.95m.
The facility can process steelwork up to 20 metres long and meets all the latest environment protection requirements.
The new SPT Park and Ride car park is due to be completed in August 2006 and will accommodate over 800 vehicles.
Scottish Galvanizers successfully secured the galvanizing contract from Paisley-based Solway Structural Steel, part of the UK-wide Barr group of companies, which specializes in construction, manufacturing, industrial and environmental projects.
