Blumsom achieves approved Lyptus stockist status
Blumsom becomes first UK timber distributor to achieve approved stockist status for Lyptus, the sustainable hardwood range from international forest products company, Weyerhaeuser.
Specialist hardwood importer, Blumsom, has become the first UK timber distributor to achieve approved stockist status for Lyptus, the sustainable hardwood range from international forest products company, Weyerhaeuser.
Blumsom added the FAS 5/4 (five quarter) thick Lyptus to its product portfolio last year, after seeking a stable and cost effective timber from which to produce door lipping and vision panel moulds.
As an approved Lyptus stockist, Blumsom will now be offering the full range of thicknesses - 4/4 (four quarter) through 8/4 (eight quarter) - enabling the diversification of use to include applications such as general joinery.
Robert Blumsom, managing director of Blumsom, explains: "We have been extremely impressed with the consistency and quality of this exotic hardwood species".
"With a guaranteed supply of the full Lyptus lumber range, we will be well placed to service wider markets, which in turn will help drive demand".
As well as offering a commercial cost benefit, Lyptus helps satisfy environmental policies, particularly with PEFC certification and COC at the Brazilian mill planned to be fully implemented by year end 2007.
Lyptus is a sustainable timber choice as the trees are plantation grown and may be harvested within 14-16 years compared to the 60 years it takes a mahogany tree to mature.
As an added benefit and to give end users a better yield, all Lyptus lumber is surfaced before grading.
The good turning properties of Lyptus make it ideal for London-based Blumsom, which provides onsite machining services on behalf of its clients.
John Guerin, European commercial director for Weyerhaeuser, comments: "Lyptus has the correct sustainability credentials for many projects and this will be particularly important in the run up to the 2012 Olympics because sustainable construction is top of the agenda".
"Blumsom is in the right location to capitalize on this opportunity, and as an approved Lyptus stockist, is guaranteed the supply to meet this anticipated demand".
As well as lumber, Lyptus is available in the UK as plywood and veneer.
Weyerhaeuser sells Lyptus in Europe through Weyerhaeuser Products Limited, headquartered in Brussels.
This is in close cooperation with specialist hardwood trading partner Treforest.
