Environmentally sustainable eucalyptus hardwood
Weyerhaeuser launches Lyptus, an environmentally sustainable eucalyptus hardwood to European market.
From an aesthetic perspective, the consistency of colour and smoothness of the grain has made Lyptus a popular choice, allowing Youngs Doors to either colour match or contrast with door veneers.
Gerry Crook, business development manager, Youngs Doors, explains: "Lyptus is truly versatile and has given us access to a sustainable timber source that also stands up on practical and aesthetic merits".
"As a premium manufacturer, we need to deliver high quality products".
"Lyptus helps us meet this requirement and is commercially realistic to use".
Launched to Europe last year, Lyptus is distributed through a network of approved partners.
Youngs Doors purchases Lyptus through specialist hardwood importer, Blumsom the first approved Lyptus stockist in the UK.
European commercial director for Weyerhaeuser, John Guerin, comments: "There has been a lot of interest in Lyptus since we launched it to Europe, with trends emerging which show it is particularly popular for interior joinery applications".
"The recent approval of Lyptus for window manufacture, and adoption by companies such as Blumsom and Youngs Doors, is testament to its strong credentials, and we expect its use in the UK to broaden throughout 2008".
Lyptus has been developed by Weyerhaeuser to offer a sustainable tropical hardwood replacement with a guaranteed supply.
Grown on managed plantations in Brazil, Lyptus trees can be harvested within 14-16 years, compared to the 60 years it takes a mahogany tree to mature.
The plantations are certified to Brazil's national sustainable forestry standard, Cerflor, recognised by the international Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
