Lyptus helps deliver Part M compliance
Flush door specialist, Manor Doors, is using Weyerhaeuser's Lyptus to manufacture Document M compliant doors.
Lyptus, the sustainable eucalyptus hardwood, was selected because it enabled Manor Doors to effectively contrast Lyptus lipping with a number of door veneers.
As well as using Lyptus lipping to visually differentiate the leading edge of doors, Manor Doors has adopted the timber as both a matching and contrasting finish for door beading, where appropriate.
An all round compliant product, the density of Lyptus is also shown to meet fire ratings of up to one and a half hours.
The flexibility of Lyptus, both in terms of its ability to accept a variety of finishes and smoothness of the grain, makes it ideal for a wide range of interior door applications.
In addition, Lyptus is exceptionally straight and dimensionally stable, which helps the door to maintain its integrity over time.
Brian Sumner, managing director, Manor Doors, explains: 'We offer a wide range of paint grade and fire rated doors for the public, commercial and industrial sectors.
Lyptus has proven to be a cost effective, stable and aesthetic choice, which has been easy to work with and well received by our customers'.
Used primarily as a substitute for hardwoods such as beech, mahogany and sapele, Lyptus has emerged as a cost effective and sustainable alternative.
This is because Lyptus is from trees that can be grown and harvested within 14-16 years, compared to the 60 years it takes a mahogany tree to mature.
John Guerin, European commercial director for Weyerhaeuser, comments: 'Stability and durability have always been a major consideration in door manufacture, and now providers must also address sustainability.
Truly environmentally friendly, Lyptus provides a practical solution that satisfies all of these demands, which has contributed to the continued popularity of it for this application'.
Lyptus has been developed by Weyerhaeuser to offer a sustainable tropical hardwood replacement with a guaranteed supply.
Lyptus is grown on trees that are from managed plantations in Brazil, which are certified to Brazil's national sustainable forestry standard, Cerflor and recognised by the international Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
Delivered ready for use, the Lyptus lipping and beading used by Manor Doors is manufactured by Blumsom, the first approved UK Lyptus stockist.
