Partnership is an insulation industry first

A Web Dynamics product story

Insulation manufacturers Web Dynamics and Knauf Insulation have joined forces to develop a space saving thermal solution for lofts.

Insulation manufacturers Web Dynamics and Knauf Insulation have joined forces to develop a space saving thermal solution for lofts.

As the trend continues to move up rather than on, the acoustic performance of Knauf Insulation's Crown Rafter Roll 32 and the thermal properties of Web Dynamics' Thinsulex, are delivering better use of loft space while maximising the thermal value of a property.

The two part insulation system makes it easier to achieve U-values of 0.2 and 0.3 within the rafters of new and existing roofs and installation of both materials is straightforward.

Crown Rafter Roll 32 is easy to cut and can be friction-fitted while ThinsulexTM is stapled directly to the rafters.

The installation process leaves no mess and little wastage.

Following the introduction of Part L of Building Regulations in England and Wales, the requirement has been to achieve lower U-values.

Thinsulex remains the only product currently awarded the BBA (British Board of Agrement) certification for a multi-foil insulation in 2006 and is also the only multi-foil product approved by Local Authority Building Control and accepted by NHBC.

It also carries a 25-year guarantee.

Thinsulex prevents air movement and makes it an excellent partner for glass mineral wool.

Glass mineral wool is easy to fit and has excellent acoustic and fire resistant properties.

Using an enhanced glass mineral wool product such as Crown Rafter Roll 32 would require a thickness of 200mm to achieve a U-value of 0.20 W/m2K , used in combination with Thinsulex it is possible to achieve the same U-value with a thickness of 120mm of Crown Rafter Roll 32.

Tim Woodbridge, chief executive of Web Dynamics explains: "We are delighted to be working with Knauf Insulation.

The company's products have an enviable reputation for thermal and acoustical performance.

"Loft conversions need as much to deliver acoustically as they do thermally.

The sound of rain bouncing on the roof of a poor conversion is easily recognised yet hard to rectify.

By combining ThinsulexTM, which offers recognised thermal properties, with Knauf Insulation's Crown Rafter Roll 32 we are confident of an efficient and easy to install insulation solution for builders and the home improvement market." Commenting on the partnership, Stephen Wise, Market Development Manager at Knauf Insulation said: "By combining Crown Rafter Roll 32 with ThinsulexTM we been able to develop a complementary and effective energy saving solution which we think the installer is going to want to use.

It saves time and money whilst providing the optimal thermal and acoustic performance that is in demand today." Thinsulex is part of an insulation system.

In most applications it should be used with a minimum of 120mm of glass mineral wool (lambda value 0.032).

It is rolled out during installation to stop air leakage while maximising the gain of radiant heat in the surrounding air.

At the same time it stops moisture contaminating the insulation and saves on internal room space.
