NHBC recognises BBA Certificate for
Thinsulex

National House Building Council (NHBC) has accepted Thinsulex, manufactured by Web Dynamics, the UK leader in multi-foil insulation.

The National House Building Council (NHBC) has accepted Thinsulex, manufactured by Web Dynamics, the UK leader in multi-foil insulation The product has been awarded a BBA Certificate based on the hot-box test method to determine thermal performance referred to in BR 443 2006

Thinsulex must be used in accordance with the certificate and will require supplementary insulation to meet the thermal requirements of building regulations.

Contractors and distributors have already welcomed the first certification award for multi-foil insulation from the BBA for Thinsulex.

This follows approval from Local Authority Building Control (LABC).

Tim Woodbridge, chairman of Web Dynamics, said: "This helps to clarify the situation and we now have a clear benchmark from three different industry organisations".

There has been too much confusion for too long in the insulation industry and at least we now have some regulation for all concerned.

A clear message is emerging that a single layer of multi-foils will no longer suffice.

Only products tested to the relevant standards should be installed.

"If contractors are in any doubt they should contact any of these organisations or ourselves and we can help them".

The NHBC is a standard setting body and leading warranty and insurance provider for new and newly converted homes in the UK.

Its role is to work with the house-building and wider construction industry to provide risk management services that raise the standards of new homes, and to provide consumer protection to new home buyers.

Since April 2006, and the introduction of Approved Document L1A of the Building Regulations in England and Wales for new dwellings, the requirement has been to improve the thermal performance of roofs.

Multi-foil insulation products, despite being relatively new to the market, are proving popular.

Unlike conventional monolithic insulation materials, their performance is achieved through reflectivity of the layers of foil that make up the system coupled with the insulation qualities of the material between the layers.

Thinsulex is quick to install, leaving no mess and results in low wastage.

It works in combination with glass wool, reducing the total thickness of insulation needed, and with PUR rigid board, cutting the installation time .

In most roof applications, it should be used with a minimum of 120mm of glass wool (Lambda value 0.032) or 70mm of PUR rigid board (Lambda value 0.023).

It is rolled out during installation to stop air leakage while minimising the loss of radiant heat to the surroundings .

At the same time it stops moisture contaminating the insulation and saves on internal room space. Request a free brochure from Web Dynamics ...
