Wincanton wins Health and Safety Award.
Wincanton has been recognised for its commitment to health and safety with success at the prestigious Safety and Health Practitioner magazine's inaugural awards ceremony
Wincanton's SHELA (Safety, Health and Environment Learning Aid) campaign was judged to have outshone its rivals in the Best Health and Safety Achievement in Transport and Logistics category, with its commitment to improving safety awareness amongst its 15,000 non-driving staff across its 360 warehouses within the UK.
The judges were particularly impressed with Wincanton's campaign to target two-thirds of its workers in distribution centres and described it as having a clear aim and a good approach.
Sean Cusack, Group Health and Safety Manager, Wincanton, comments: "We are extremely proud to win this award".
"The health and safety team here at Wincanton along with staff have worked really hard to develop a culture of respect and commitment to health and safety across the business".
"This award recognises this hard work and we are now looking forward to taking the campaign to the next level".
Wincanton's SHELA campaign targets employees in distribution centres to meet its four key objectives of:.
* Creating a campaign to promote further awareness of HandS, resulting in a safer working environment for all.
* Developing a culture where employees build on their existing knowledge of personal safety, developing awareness of their responsibility for themselves and their colleagues.
* Reducing lost time injuries year-on-year.
* Reducing accident book entries year-on-year.
