Worcester launch Greensource air to air heat pumps

A Worcester Bosch Group product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Aug 20, 2008

Worcester have a new series of Greensource air to air heat pumps offer homeowners an alternative solution for cutting the cost of heating bills and reducing CO2 emissions.

The new air to air products join Worcester's existing series of Greensource air to water heat pumps, which were launched earlier in the year and have proved popular with installers and consumers alike.

Working in a similar way to the air to water units, the technology inside the new air to air heat pumps operates on similar principles to a domestic fridge.

An external fan draws air from outside the building into the unit, converting energy stored in the air into useable heat to provide comfortable temperatures inside the home all year round.

Even when the air is cold outside, Worcester's air source heat pumps will continue to work effectively in temperatures as low as -20oC, which are not typical of British winters.

Installation and maintenance is easy, as a suitable external wall is all that is required for fitting the compact outdoor unit.

This can either be wall or floor mounted depending upon the desired location.

The outdoor unit is in turn connected with an indoor unit, which is designed to quietly circulate warm air around the home.

This flexibility makes Worcester's Greensource air to air heat pumps particularly suitable for apartments and smaller properties where space is limited.

As an extra benefit, a Greensource air to air heat pump can also operate as an air cooler and purifier using Plasmacluster Ion-technology, which is built in to the appliance.

Capable of filtering pollen and dust from the air, this means Worcester's air to air heat pumps are ideal for allergy sufferers or simply for reducing the temperature of living areas during hot summer months.

The indoor unit has dimensions of 790 x 278 x 198mm and the outdoor unit is 780 x 540 x 265mm in size (width x height x depth).

Available only as a complete package, the units are supplied with a user-friendly remote control and are highly efficient in any temperature range.

When installed correctly in accordance with guidelines, an air to air heat pump can produce up to approximately 4 times more heat energy for use in the home than the electrical energy it consumes.

Worcester's Greensource air to air units have a COP (Coefficient of Performance) of up to 4, which means each heat pump is capable of providing up to 4 kW of energy for every kW used.

Martyn Bridges, director of marketing and technical support said: "Air source heat pump technology has become increasingly popular in the Swedish market, so with our comparatively mild winters these products suit UK requirements perfectly.

"As would be expected, we have introduced a new training course to support installers keen to start passing on the benefits of this new technology to their customers.

Given the feedback we have already had from the trade, we are confident that air source heat pumps will become a very popular alternative to traditional heating systems in the next few years." All air source heat pumps in Worcester's Greensource series are covered by a comprehensive 2 year warranty* as reassurance of the built-in quality and reliability for which Worcester, Bosch Group is renowned.
