The installation of Worcester, Bosch Group Greensource air to air heat pumps in a church has been recognised by Worcester Bosch's Environment 2020 Awards.

Esas Ali has been chosen as the 2009 Installer Winner at the awards which took place on 8 July at the Worcester Warriors' Six Ways Stadium.

Esas owns his own plumbing and heating business - E A Services (SE) in Kent - and was selected ahead of 11 other monthly winners for installing a renewable heating system to the Winchmore Hill United Reformed Church.

Esas was called to the North London church after its old heating system had finally given in after nearly a century of loyal service.

The decision was made to replace the old system with a series of six Worcester Greensource air to air heat pumps which utilise air from outside the building and turn it into usable heat to warm the church hall.

Runners up in the installer category were Terry Morgan of Hereford Boiler Services, Dave Hill of D Hill Bathrooms in Tamworth, and Chris Yates of Yates Renewable Energies in North Wales.

The Specification section of the awards commends local authorities, housing associations and builders for specifying the most appropriate heating and hot water systems for domestic properties, and also for considering the partnership and whole life costing for the household.

The Housing Association Award was collected by Twin Valley Homes in East Lancashire, which has installed Greenstar high efficiency boilers and Greenskies solar panels at a new HCA (Homes and Communities Agency) development of affordable homes, to meet level three on the Code for Sustainable Homes.

The work was carried out by Meadowcroft Plumbing who was also commended for its involvement.

The Local Authority Award was won by Wakefield and District Housing (WDH) for its early adoption of renewable technologies in a number of tenant's homes.

WDH has created its own 'Wakefield Standard' which goes above and beyond the Government's Decent Homes Standard.

This has resulted in Worcester, Bosch Group's Greensource air to water heat pumps being installed in a selection of homes to deliver heating and hot water from a renewable source.

Thomas Armstrong Construction won the Housebuilder Award for a new build housing project in Keswick in the Lake District, which includes 42 properties with a high standard of insulation.

38 of those properties have Greenskies solar panels and a Greenstar 30CDi regular boiler to deliver highly efficient heating and hot water provision.

This year's Self-Build Winner was Richard Oddie who has transformed a burned-out property in the tranquil surroundings of Llanwrtyd Wells into a completely re-built modern specification, incorporating a range of renewable technologies.

The re-build makes use of Worcester Bosch's Greenskies solar panels, which heat the property's water supply, whilst a Greenstar boiler is used to provide a central heating solution.

Roger Webb, director of the HHIC (Heating and Hotwater Industry Council) was the guest of honour.

Neil Schofield and Steve Lister of Worcester Bosch hosted the event.

The Environment 2020 awards are an annual event which will run until the year 2020.
