Launch of the Wood Window Alliance marks the start of a revolution for the sector

The launch, which was held at Earl's Court to coincide with 100% Detail, was attended by wood window manufacturers, architects, house builders, industry federations and sustainability officers from local authorities.
Guests also heard from founder member Mumford and Wood's sales director Chris Wood who highlighted how the formation of the Alliance will lead directly to a raising of standards within the wood window industry.
All parties within the supply chain, including manufacturers, installers and procurement managers, will be able to effectively address issues such as sustainable building, quality testing, procurement procedures and material sourcing more effectively.

The advertising and public relations campaign with the slogan "Wood".
"At the Heart of a Good Window", breaks at the end of September with a second major push planned for spring, 2008.
A distinctive brandmark, featuring heart and tree symbols, will communicate the quality standards of members' products in meeting the requirements set by the Alliance.
Focusing on professional, trade and consumer audiences, the campaign will communicate the performance, durability and sustainability of modern wood windows and address some of the old misconceptions revealed by research.
The results of a major consumer research project will be released in October.
Alliance members have been deeply involved in the formation of the new initiative, which will be administered by the BWF, and which will have marketing at its heart.
Chris Wood stressed the credentials of the new venture: "Window manufacturers have to earn the right to become WWA members".
"It's not just about paying a fee and getting a badge".
"Their windows must meet the relevant standards, be accredited by an independent UK or European body, be manufactured from sustainable wood sources and have warranties for durability, paint life, ironmongery and insulated glass units".
"The windows must also meet or exceed the Building Regulations requirements for energy efficiency".
"This is about recognising and raising standards within the industry, maintaining them and promoting them to potential customers.".
