QTS celebrates IS0:9001 success
Warehouse supplies manufacture, QTS has successfully achieved the internationally recognised quality management standard ISO 9001:2000 for the second year running.
The specification covered a receiving and fully automated storage and delivery facility for aggregates, cements and additives.
The project involved limiting the environmental impact, which included reducing aggregates spillage to a minimum and the elimination of dust escaping to atmosphere.
This was achieved by providing fully enclosed conveyors and screening equipment fully integrated into the existing buildings.
In addition, the installed equipment was designed to be easily maintained, with all walkways and access platforms carefully designed to provide a safe working environment.
All equipment was guarded in accordance with BS 2890 and electro-mechanically interlocked where necessary, complying with all the current Health and Safety at Work regulations, while still providing good visual access to the equipment.
The aggregate handling equipment included a Samson receiving unit which featured electro/hydraulic operation, with automatic variable speed and manual control of belt speed.
The unit provides a 20m3 volumetric capacity, holding 32 tonne, and was designed for receiving and discharge rates of 500 and 100 tonnes/hr respectively.
Five inclined and one horizontal troughed belt conveyor were supplied, all 600mm wide and having combined drum to drum lengths of 100 metres.
All operated at approximate belt speeds of 0.76 metre/sec, handling loads up to 100 tonne/hr of aggregate.
Two variable speed horizontal belt apron feeders were provided, one with reversing capacity for handling marine or crushed aggregates.
Cement handling was provided by a screw conveyor system.
A number of handling accessories including feeders, screens, hoppers and chutes were supplied and incorporated into the build, together with the installation of a batch mixer (2.2 tonne capacity) and specially fabricated pneumatic slide valves for material control.
Two fully enclosed 300 tonne storage bunkers plus a dust extraction plant were also supplied to complete the installation.
