Construction is underway on an extension in Leeming Bar, which will provide additional refrigeration storage to world famous pork pie makers Vale of Mowbray.

Yorkshire contractor York House Construction is on site with the 20-week construction programme, which is scheduled to complete mid November.

Project managed by DBK Branson the finished extension will increase maximum capacity from 1.5 million pies to a waistband stretching 3 million pies per week.

York House was appointed earlier this year by Vale of Mowbray to add the GBP500k extension to the existing refrigeration storage thus increasing the storage capacity.

Bob Vincent, spokesperson for Vale of Mowbray comments: 'We are eagerly awaiting the completion of construction as the extra storage space is urgently required to cope with the significant increase in demand, especially in the run up to Christmas.

'In recent years at Christmas we have rented premises to accommodate for the increase but have decided the best option is to bring it in house, and keep our 'fingers in all the pies'.

Andy Bruce, managing director of York House Construction comments: 'It is great to be working for such a well known brand, and whilst we are working to a tight schedule, we are confident that the building will be ready in time.'.
