Yeoman shield helps bring the NHS to life

A Yeoman Shield product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Apr 1, 2005

Surface protection specialist Yeoman Shield, played its part in the reconstruction of an imitation NHS hospital by supplying a range of its wall and door protection products for the event.

When the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham was converted to imitate an NHS hospital, over 2000 students from the South Yorkshire region were given a unique opportunity to get under the skin of Britain's medical services.

The WOW project, a unique scheme created and managed by Business and Education South Yorkshire in partnership with Rotherham Primary Care Trust, saw Year 9 and 10 students from over 40 local schools attend the region's biggest healthcare careers event.

Converting the venue into a realistic working hospital setting was a huge task and relied on the support of numerous parties to make sure the end result was as authentic as possible.

Surface protection specialist Yeoman Shield, played its part in the reconstruction by supplying a range of its wall and door protection products to the event.

A trusted supplier to the healthcare industry, the products supplied by Yeoman Shield mirrored the wall protection that features in many hospitals across the country.

The result was a realistic backdrop for the event, which brought the medical profession to life more than any number of textbooks could.

Students were able to get involved in a range of medical scenarios ranging from accident and emergency and x-ray procedures to ambulance services and life-like surgery.

Learning exercises and a typical patient journey through a hospital were also used to help students get a clearer idea of how hospitals work.

The event staged a 'marketplace' where local organisations were able to promote healthy living and demonstrate the diversity of a medical-related career choice.

Those attending included high-profile groups such as the Royal Air Force, Army, Navy, St.

John's Ambulance and Blood Transfusion Service, as well as organisations raising awareness of substance abuse, smoking and sexual and mental health.

Carole Rayner, special projects manager at Yeoman Shield says, "The WOW project was a great achievement for all those involved, with the authenticity of the venue playing a huge part in this success".

"We were delighted that we were able to contribute to such a worthwhile event, helping the students to realise the breadth of opportunity available in the medical profession".

"Possessing a great deal of expertise in the healthcare market, we have a comprehensive product offering suitable for a number of hospitals, even imitations!".
