Penrallt Consulting at Green Horizons Exhibition
Penrallt Consulting offers advice, design and project management on all aspects of water supply, management, disposal and flood risk, including many issues that affect smallholders.
Penrallt Consulting , a specialist water engineering consultancy booked its first-ever tradestand at the 2009 Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (RWAS) Smallholder and Garden Festival Green Horizons Exhibition - only five weeks after it started trading.
Penrallt Consulting offers advice, design and project management on all aspects of water supply, management, disposal and flood risk, including many issues that affect smallholders.
Company founders Steve and Shari Barber-Bailey chose the Smallholder and Garden Festival Green Horizons Exhibition as their launch event even though it meant booking their stand before the company was set up.
The company brings a level of expertise that is rarely found outside large, multinational engineering consultancies within reach of rural individuals and small businesses throughout the UK.
Steve Barber-Bailey is a Chartered Civil Engineer whose CV includes large-scale projects for the water industry, such as the GBP125million+ aqueduct currently being constructed between Liverpool and Manchester.
Smaller past projects include flood mitigation at Chester racecourse, and helping a client to reroute a planned pipeline that would have had a severe impact on the value of their land.
Clients benefit from a personal, tailored service with a practical approach to caring for the environment.
"Considering sustainability as a foundation for a project is more efficient than trying to adapt later," Steve explained, "And many strategies for optimising sustainability can actually reduce costs as well as minimising the impact on the environment".
Steve cited two recent examples where improving sustainability offered practical benefits for Penrallt Consulting's clients.
The first was a proposed housing development using a sustainable drainage system that would be cost-effective to implement and attractive to planning authorities whilst complementing the existing ecology.
The second example was a proposed mini-hydroelectric scheme on a 108-acre farm.
"Hydroelectric power has obvious claims to sustainability," he said, "But new schemes need careful planning to minimise impact on the environment".
"In this case, my client needs to maintain a water supply to specific fields for his cattle, while minimising damage to his land".
Penrallt Consulting's blend of industry experience, personal service and environmental concern already appears popular.
The company attracted clients within days from word-of-mouth alone, and looks set to become even busier after the Smallholder and Garden Festival.
