SIG Energy Management has welcomed the Green Deal announced in the Coalition Government's first Budget.

Chancellor George Osborne MP announced that the Government will establish a 'Green Deal' for households to help individuals invest in home energy efficiency improvements that can pay for themselves through savings in energy bills.

The Government also said that it will also continue to work on green financial products to provide individuals with opportunities to invest in the small scale energy generation technologies which could boost the green economy and cut carbon emissions.

Paul Roche, Commercial Director at SIG Energy Management said: "Going green is often seen as expensive and difficult so industry and Government must together do what they can to overcome this".

"The Government's Green Deal has the potential to really help homeowners to cut their energy bills and reduce carbon emissions".

The Green Deal could be a strong package to give the green economy the opportunity to grow, continue to lower the capital costs of green technologies and create highly skilled green jobs in the UK.

"Combined with the Feed in Tariff, introduced in April 2010, which offers individuals who purchase photovoltaic (PV) panels up to 41.6pence/kWh, the solar energy sector could benefit from the Green Deal".

"If the Government continues to legislate affectively, the PV sector could be worth around GBP27 billion at its peak.

Roche continues: "However, it is vital that key other policy areas are now addressed to help us tackle climate change and lower energy bills".

"The Renewable Heat Incentive's (RHI) implementation is urgent".

"This scheme will provide financial support for those who install renewable heating, which qualifies under the scheme".

"This Government aims to be the greenest ever, but it will be judged by its policies".

"Any delays to this in the hope of reducing the deficit will have a long term negative financial and environmental impact, which the UK cannot afford.
