Green Footprint launches Li roof system

A Green Footprint Solutions product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jul 2, 2009

The environmentally-friendly Li insulation system for lightweight inverted roofs is now available in the UK from Green Footprint Solutions.

The Li boards comprise a peerless range of insulation thicknesses, ranging from 30mm to 140mm, providing improved U values without excessive thickness.

This is complemented by a strong but lightweight cementitious topping of either 10mm for intermittent traffic or 20mm for more intensive traffic.

The insulation, a new-generation formulation of EXPS, has zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) and the BREEAM requirement of >5 GWP (Global Warming Potential) and is CFC-, HCFC- and HFC-free.

It is also manufactured using CO2 captured as a by-product.

The topping alleviates the use of heavyweight slabs and gives a reduced slip surface, also saving on transport when compared with normal concrete slabs.

Its light weight also makes for ease of handling on and to site.

The 1200 x 600mm shiplapped Li boards are typically laid on top of a waterproof breathable membrane that is itself laid on top of a blank EXPS board sitting on top of the roof's waterproofing system.

Combinations of the insulation with the topping can achieve U values down to 0.18w/mk (180mm blank EXPS board with 40mm insulation and 10mm topping).

Thermal resistances for Robust Details are achieved from 0.95mk/W.

As well as lightweight inverted roofs, the Li boards are suitable for perimeter upstand/parapet detailing, vertical cladding in basements and external insulation below DPMs, protecting the waterproofing membrane from mechanical damage, UV light and fluctuations in temperature.

Proven in new-build and refurbishment for more than 20 years, the Li system is compatible with most flat roof membranes, reducing the loadings on lightweight conventional flat roofs while giving up to five times self-weight hold down depending on the laying pattern.

This can either be horizontal opposing or brick-bond.
