Zotefoam expansion joints for Korean Railway
Ceva 100 is the state of the art expansion jointing system approved and selected for use on the Korean High Speed Railway.
Ceva 100 is the state of the art expansion jointing system approved and selected for use on the Korean High Speed Railway in the Seoul-Pusan Corridor, an area that contains 70% of the countries population as well as 66% of the countries industry.
The Ceva 100 Joint System features Zotefoams' Evazote 380 E.S.P.with H.A.L.S.(Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers) as the joint material of choice.
E-poxy Engineered Materials, LLC and Koreana Engineering Co undertook extensive research, design and testing in the search for a state-of-the-art expansion joint system.
The proposed Ceva 100 Joint System, which marries Evazote 380 with Eva-Pox Bonder successfully cycled over one million times within the testing facility prior to consideration.
A proven track record, combined with successful laboratory testing resulted in the Evazote 380 expansion joint system being approved by the research consortium and K.H.S.R.
Evazote 380 E.S.P.with H.A.L.S.was installed during a variety of weather conditions, including extreme cold and rain.
Due to the ever changing weather conditions the bonding agent was adjusted to accommodate these conditions.
Evazote is a closed-cell, cross-linked ethylene vinyl acetate, low-density, polyethylene copolymer.
The joint material being both closed cell and elastic has a working range of 60% compression, 30% tension and 120% shear.
It unaffected by road salts and petroleum products (i.e gasoline, diesel fuel, oil and grease) and repels stones and debris otherwise absorbed by strip seals.
When under compression, Evazote closes upon itself, eliminating the possible extrusion of the material created by thermal contraction of the expansion joint.
Several construction methods were utilized during the building of the bridges and viaducts.
Typically, pre-cast centre box girders were used with a concrete deck placed on the top as the rail surface.
The Ceva 100 Joint System can be found throughout the K.H.S.R.on structures similar to the Nakdonggang and Kapchon Bridges and the Oyon, Pycongtaek, Snagchan, and Inpyung viaducts.
Work on the 426km K.H.R.S.began in the mid 1990's.
The system includes 7 stations, 77 tunnels and numerous bridges and viaducts.
The 34.4km Chonan/Daejon test track system was completed in 1999.
Currently, Phase I of the project is now complete and Phase II is ahead of scheduled.
