Offsite construction explored as answer to housing crisis

The claim came after the announcement that the GLA is considering a move to directly deliver housing in London to increase housebuilding.

In recent years, the UK has fallen short of its house building targets – which in turn are increasing year on year. It is predicted that a total of 250,000 homes need to be delivered annually in order to tackle spiralling house prices and the critical shortage of affordable homes.

It is also proposed that, whether the state takes on housebuilding, or if it left to private house builders, the benefits of offsite construction could play a crucial part in meeting the government housing targets that have been repeatedly missed.

Explore Offsite Housing

The benefits of offsite construction will be discussed at the Explore Offsite Housing event, held in Birmingham on 7th July.

Discussions will take place concerning the future of public sector housing, private sector investment and the technologies on offer.

The event will focus on industry issues such as keynotes from the new government on its ‘manufactured housing’ priorities, discussions with public and private sector clients on their initiatives and case studies of live projects.

Over 250 industry experts will be in attendance at the event alongside 30 offsite technology manufacturers who will create the complementary exhibition.
