Addressing the acoustic performance of rainscreen cladding

Rainscreen cladding recommended for improving acoustic performance

  • 25 Aug 2017

ROCKWOOL UK has announced the launch of its new technical bulletin, which addresses the acoustic benefits of rainscreen cladding.

Driving the need for increased living space, urbanisation has led to buildings being erected within close proximity of noise sources, such as construction sites, railway networks and traffic, both in the air and on the road.

In a bid to tackle such noise pollution, ROCKWOOL has carried out several acoustic tests on its rainscreen cladding systems, to determine each products’ sound reduction performance.

The results show that, by using 100mm of its RAINSCREEN DUO Slab, outdoor noise can be reduced from 68dB to an impressive 9dB. These acoustic levels demonstrate that there is no need for additional mass layers; a good level of sound performance can be achieved by using a single layer of acoustic plasterboard.

ROCKWOOL has synthesised this data into both its acoustic calculator, and its new Rainscreen Acoustic Reference Guide.

Acoustic benefits of rainscreen cladding

The Rainscreen Acoustic Reference Guide considers the rising impact of noise in urban environments and proposes rainscreen cladding, with its proven sound insulation properties, as a solution.

It draws on acoustic test data for a range of ROCKWOOL products to simplify the specification of rainscreen cladding solutions.

The bulletin can be downloaded from the company’s website
