Redland manufacturing line at Shawell

Redland increases tile manufacture to meet housing industry demand

  • 5 Apr 2017

Redland has revealed its plans to build a new manufacturing line for DuoPlain, its plain-tile appearance product, and large-format concrete tules and slates.

With Government targets encouraging the growth of the UK’s housing stock, manufacturers such as Redland are under increasing pressure to produce and provide.

‘The UK’s capacity to build more homes is restricted by the availability of construction materials, such as roof tiles,’ says Redland’s country manager for the UK and Ireland, Andy Dennis.

The company has discovered that demand for large-format and plain-appearance roof tiles is currently outstripping supply. The housebuilding industry is currently experiencing long lead times, which are a hinderance to productivity.

Redland hopes its new manufacturing line will improve its ability to meet the housebuilding industry’s demands for specific tile formats, by increasing both capacity and flexibility.

Located at the company’s central Shawell plant, the new line will come on stream later this year. Work on the installation is currently underway; Redland predicts that several new skilled jobs will be created when production begins.
