Abloy UK champion the use of electric locks over door magnets to save energy and reduce emissions.
Unlike electric locks, door magnets require an electric current to lock the door.
This current then breaks with the use of a request to exit button, cutting the lock’s magnetic hold and allowing the door to be opened.
In contrast, a motorised or solenoid lock only uses power to open the door.
As doors are closed for the majority of the time, it is here that energy can be saved.
A popular exhibitor at this year’s Ecobuild exhibition, Abloy UK offers seminars on the benefits of electric locking, while a Foundations course on standards and legislation, and practical workshops on installing electric locks, can be found at the Abloy Academy.
Jon Burke, Marketing Manager for Abloy UK, said: ’Raising awareness of the benefits of electric locks is a key message for us as we look to provide solutions that can help businesses not only secure their property, but also conform to any green agenda.
’Reducing a carbon footprint, combined with the potential energy cost savings, mean that electric locks are rapidly becoming the preferred solution for many companies.
’Aside from the environmental benefits, some electric locks also offer a superior level of security, which can be essential in certain applications’.
Solenoid locks, like the Abloy EL560, work by controlling either the latch or the handle, and are suitable for internal doors of public buildings, offices, schools or hospitals, and external doors of apartments and detached houses.
Motorised locks, like the Abloy EL520, work by motorising the bolt back once a proximity card is presented or a request to exit device is used.
The Abloy App has been designed to allow for users to select door security products for specification and installation quick and easily.
Security expert Abloy UK has supplied its EL560 solenoid locks and handles to Castle Quay in Jersey to provide a secure and controlled access solution to the development site.
HE Simms Integrated Systems has installed 45 Abloy UK L1S Smartair wireless access control systems at Loreto Sixth Form College in Manchester. The system was retro-fitted to existing mechanical lock cases as part of a security provision upgrade. Smartair is an electronic handle set which provides stand alone single door control operating as an electronic masterkeying system.
Abloy UK offer a RIBA approved CPD on Electronically Controlled Locking Solutions. The seminar helps understand the basic requirements of access control systems including electric locking options and design standard-compliant access control systems, plus how to ensure that electric locking specifications meet the requirements of both fire door and escape door legislation.
Abloy UK new pocket specification handbook offers a complete guide to compliant security solutions. The Compliant Specifications Handbook contains the same information as the helpful Abloy UK smartphone app that enables users to quickly select suitable products for specification or installation and then find their nearest Abloy Centre.
