Survey shows ROI key to energy efficiency

Unacceptable cost/return on investments

Warmafloor report on latest Sustainability Now online Conference - Sustainability and the City - that highlighted obstacles to investment in sustainable building practices.

In the Q&A session, 67% of the audience identified ’unacceptable cost/return on investments’ as the main barrier preventing the widespread use of energy efficient and low-carbon technologies.

Press statement from Warmafloor: Managing Director of Warmafloor, Mike Lamb said: ’Sadly, it comes as no surprise to me that two-thirds of those attending the conference identified unacceptable return on investments as a barrier to low-carbon technologies.

The belief that sustainable building methods provide low-value returns is so entrenched that it is blinding specifiers, architects and developers from considering different technologies and design practices’.

’However, with Chris Huhne announcing a 50% CO2 emissions cut across the years 2023 to 2027, compared with 1990 levels, we need to work harder to overturn these myths to help de-carbonise our energy supply and increase energy efficiency.

From our point of view, by working closely with clients in utilising underfloor heating and cooling technologies we are able to overcome any initial reservations to provide considerable whole-life cost and energy savings for them, often to their surprise.
