Established in 1992, Granada Glazing Ltd is the UK’s largest manufacturer and supplier of high quality bespoke aluminium secondary glazing. All products are manufactured in-house at its 50,000 square feet site where an on-site powder coating and arching facility can customise secondary glazing systems to customers’ exact specifications, plus a full glass range is offered for enhanced acoustic, thermal and security performance.

Increasingly being specified in refurbishment contracts, secondary glazing is the process through which a discreet, slimline internal window is fitted to an existing single, double or triple glazed window. It is frequently installed within commercial properties to substantially reduce noise levels and increase thermal insulation.

Secondary glazing is preferred for use in Listed Buildings and conservation areas as the bespoke design can be retrofitted to virtually any building and window type, while retaining the external character of the original windows. Slim sightlines render the internal windows invisible when viewed from the outside, while they provide increased thermal and acoustic insulation.

Benefits of secondary glazing include: an increase in acoustic insulation, a substantial reduction in heat loss and greater levels of security.

Secondary glazing benefits

Acoustic insulation:

Noise pollution can be problematic, affecting workplaces, hotels, schools, libraries and homes. Granada Glazing’s systems can reduce noise levels by up to 54dB – the equivalent of cutting the sounds of heavy traffic to just a whisper and making the interior up to 80% quieter.

Reduces heat loss:

Secondary glazing acts as an effective insulating barrier that prevents heat escaping. Using the correct glass and air cavity will create a warmer, more secure interior space and reduce heat loss by as much as 65%. Secondary glazing with low-E glass delivers optimum thermal insulation to a U-value of under 2.0.

Increased levels of security:

Creating an extra barrier with secondary glazing enhances security for homes and commercial buildings alike. Strong aluminium frames hold laminated glass securely in place providing an additional physical barrier against forced entry.

Granada Glazing’s bespoke secondary glazing is available in a range of shapes, sizes and a choice of over 200 RAL colours. From horizontal and vertical sliders, hinged casements to fixed or lift-out panels, Granada can supply customers across the UK.

Granada works across broad sectors including commercial, hospitality, healthcare, education, heritage, residential and social housing. It also offers a full turnkey service, from design, manufacture, supply and installation to aftercare.
