Preparation key for classy Osmo finish

  • 17 Jan 2018

Wood finishing expert Osmo UK is providing industry professionals with a faster, simpler approach that alters how wood is treated.

Guaranteeing the flooring surface is prepared before the finish is added is key to ensuring your wooden floor is visually attractive.

Convention says oil finishes need the surface to be sanded extremely finely for the surface to stay smooth, which requires extra sanding; however, Osmo has altered this process.

Now, Osmo’s eco-friendly wood finishes have eliminated the need to fine sand the surface.

With Osmo’s finishes being extremely viscid, with a mixture of both oils and waxes, the wood absorbs the finish for a smooth surface, so the extra level of sanding is completely unnecessary.

Surfaces have to be clean, dry and frost-free before sanding commences, whilst it is also advised to sand carefully before application, starting with a coarse paper. To get the smooth flooring surface, the wood has to be sanded in the direction of the grain.

Moving the sandpaper continuously will prevent marks where the sanding machine has stopped and for edges which cannot be reached, a special edge sander is advised; the result – a smooth surface with a vivid optical character.
