ABC&D JULY MAGAZINE: The Eclisse Advantage

  • 2 Aug 2022

ECLISSE Pocket Door Systems are regularly specified by architects for multi-million pound developments worldwide. Architects choose ECLISSE because of the quality and reliability of the products, the wide range of product variations offered, the fact they are quick and easy to fit, the fire-rated options and the wide widths and heights available for the bespoke sizes.

Quality and reliability

The galvanised steel vertical and horizontal sections of the Classic ECLISSE pocket door frame have been carefully designed to be both lightweight and strong. Each section has been specially formed to provide the necessary robustness and rigidity.

Once assembled into a complete pocket door frame (including pocket, header with track and metal door post) the complete unit is then inserted into timber or metal studwork and the pocket plaster boarded over. The door is then top hung and when opened, disappears into the pocket in the wall. The fact the ECLISSE system assembles into a complete unit saves the installer time, facilitates alignment and results in a great sliding action.

Pocket doors are not subject to CE certification, however the ECLISSE systems have been comprehensively and independently tested. The ECLISSE frame has been subject to, and successfully passed, rigorous dynamic impact testing (UNI EN 1629). The ECLISSE runners have been subject to durability test UNI EN 1526 and still operated perfectly after 100,000 open and close cycles.

It is this attention to detail in both the quality of the design, the choice of quality materials and the comprehensive testing that give architects worldwide the confidence to specify ECLISSE pocket door systems.

Wide range of product variations offered

There are two main styles of ECLISSE pocket door system. The Classic system requires finishing off with decorative architrave. The Syntesis Flush System is architrave free and has specially formed edge profiles, that are made from extruded aluminium for increased rigidity, which allow for a crisp plaster finish right to the edge and into the reveal.

ECLISSE don’t just do single and double pocket door systems they also offer so much more including telescopic, curved and also frameless glass pocket doors. Double telescopic systems which allow two doors to disappear into the pocket on the left and two doors to disappear in the pocket on the right give the widest possible passage width and are great for opening up and closing off open plan space.

Quick and easy to fit

With ECLISSE you specify the kit to fit: There are a wide range of kit sizes available to suit standard UK door sizes so there is no time wasted in cutting and modifying steel sections to fit. The ECLISSE attention to detail has resulted in a ‘quick click’ pocket door frame that is easy to assemble. The emphasis on easy fit applies to the smallest detail, even the floor guide has been designed to fit perfectly, dead centre in a matter of seconds.

New Pocket Thicknesses: The Classic Pocket Door System are also now being offered in a new range of pocket thicknesses i.e., 70 and 90mm, that are a perfect match for CLS and C-shape metal stud which make plaster boarding not just the pocket but the whole wall with 12.5mm plasterboard now quicker and easier.

Fire-rated options

ECLISSE offer a single and double Classic FD30 Pocket Door Systems that have been fully tested and approved for use with any 44mm FD30 fire door. These systems come with integrated jambs and architrave made from high density timber with the intumescent strips required.

Bespoke sizing

Bespoke sizing of up to 2.9m high and 2m wide can be reached with the Classic Single Pocket Door System and 2.7m x 1.3m with the Syntesis Flush Single Pocket Door System. This sizing is available for other product too, details of which can be found on the product pages of the ECLISSE website.

Environmental credentials and investment in people

The ECLISSE systems are manufactured in a state-of-the-art factory in Italy. The factory has been ISO 14001 accredited for many years and is in the process of becoming ISO 14021:2016 accredited. The timber jamb kits supplied with the Classic pocket door products are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) accredited.
