Cable Guide Clamp by Ellis Patents

Cable Guide Clamp utilised by ABB in Crossrail Connection Scheme

  • 28 Jun 2016

EllisCable Guide Clamp has assisted with the installation of a number of HV cables in the Kensal Green section of National Grid’s Crossrail Connection Scheme in London.

Crossrail – a new railway for London and the South East of England – has been developed with the aim of improving journey times across the capital, by easing congestion and improving connections.

Comprising over 40km of new tunnels and 10 new stations, it is expected to increase London’s rail capacity by 10% when it opens in 2019.

Cable Guide Clamp

Ellis’ Cable Guide Clamp was utilised by ABB on SGT1 and SGT2 transformer end cable sealing support structures in the Kensal Green section of the development scheme.

The installation required ABB to run two large cables through a number of tight and unusual angles; they then had to ensure that the cables would stay in place once installed.

Ellis’ Cable Guide Clamp has been designed to feed, and subsequently restrain, large diameter cables along routes that feature a variety of twists and turns. It works in two stages: firstly, it guides the cables into their final location, marking clear entry and exit points to ensure that the cable is not damaged when fed through particularly sharp angled turns.

Once the cable is laid correctly, the top half of the guide is removed and a fixing piece is installed directly onto the cable. The top half is re-secured, transforming the Cable Guide Clamp into a fully-functioning HV cable clamp.
