Silva Timber’s Certi-sawn Tapersawn shakes have been used to create a rustic cedar shake roof for Teasel’s Wood Cabin, a garden replica of an American log cabin.
As frequent visitors to the United States, John and Rebecca Bunting were inspired to build their own ‘American’ log cabin, drawing on Adirondack, Western and New England styles of design.
Silva Timber’s Western Red Cedar Certi-sawn No. 2 Grade Tapersawn Cedar shakes were specified as roofing material for the garden cabin, in order to achieve the desired rustic aesthetic.
Cedar shake roof installation
Cedar shake roofs are popular across the US and Canada. With the ability to withstand adverse weather conditions and insulate properties effectively, they are also becoming increasingly popular in Britain.
Graded as No. 2, Silva Timber’s Certi-sawn Western Red Cedar shakes contain a high proportion of high quality shakes, making them suitable for use on residential properties.
They are produced by sawing both faces to achieve a taper; the result is a board that boasts the appearance of a smooth faced shingle, and the thickness of a shake.
