Investment and innovation in coating technology

Did you know, that the coatings applied to Pilkington’s most advanced high-performance products are typically 1000 times thinner than a piece of paper?

In this video, Greg Clarke, process engineer at Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, talks us through the process that takes place at the state-of-the-art off-line coater in St. Helens, UK: from how the coatings are created during the sputtering process to how they’re used in core products such as Pilkington K Glass» S, as well as more complex solar control glass such as Pilkington Suncool».

Since it was commissioned in 2012, the coater has produced over 10 million square meters of glass.
