Leading UK acoustic systems and product manufacturer Hush Acoustics has launched a new double-action matting that can significantly reduce sound transmission through separating floors.
Hushlay 15 Soundmatting is a high performing unique three layer acoustic floor product that reduces impact noise transmitting through the floor structure, but with the additional benefit of contributing to airborne noise reduction.
The matting’s effectiveness at reducing sound transmission results from its innovative composition. Two high performing deadening sheets are sandwiched either side of a frequency tuned resilient layer, resulting in superior performance in terms of reducing impact sound transmission.
The mass contained within Hushlay 15, provided through the deadening sheets, also helps it to reduce airborne noise, giving the product dual benefits.
The result is acoustic performance of 47dB for impact sound (L’nT,w) and 61dB (DnT,w) and 49dB (DnT,w + Ctr) for airborne sound – based on Hushlay 15 Soundmatting being laid over a floor structure, with a suitable ceiling treatment and all flanking paths removed.
Hushlay 15 Soundmatting is highly versatile, as it is suitable for use over any timber or concrete floor structure in both domestic and non-domestic applications.
When combined with the appropriate acoustic ceiling system, such as those available from Hush, it will comply with the Building Regulations for a separating floor in all UK nations – including Approved Document E in England & Wales.
The product is easy to handle and install too, being supplied in 15mm thick, 1200mm x 1200mm mats which are easy to cut and shape. It can be laid directly under carpet floor finishes, isolated at the carpet grippers using the Hushlay 15 Soundmatting Perimeter Strips, and under engineered and laminate timber flooring when used in conjunction with the Hush Timber layer.
Hushlay 15 Soundmatting is the latest addition to Hush Acoustics’ wide range of floor treatment products designed to cut nuisance sound transmission. From rubber based acoustic underlays to fully tested floor/ceiling systems, the Hush range provides solutions to address both impact sound and airborne sound, sometimes in a single product as Hushlay 15 demonstrates.
