Master roofer swoops international award thanks to DuPont Tyvek

  • 7 Feb 2018

The incredible roof at Quintain House by Rowlands Roofing, for which Tyvek®‘s Supro breather membranes and tapes were used, has enjoyed vast award success, the latest being from the International Federation for the Roofing Trade (IFR/IFD).

This award was given to Hereford-based Rowlands Roofing at the 65th IFD Congress, held in Vienna, in October last year.

The IFD awards recognise the phenomenal work of roofing contractors in both workmanship and safety, with 71 buildings from across the globe nominated; Quintain House tasted success in the pitched roof category.

Contractors Rowlands Roofing’s innovative project was a fine example of its craftsmanship, with the glorious sweeping curves of the building’s 820 square metre roof topped with  a whopping 60,000 hand cut clay tiles.

Master Craftsman Andrew Rowlands said the unique design of this Gloucestershire required reliable, robust protection, as well as being stunning to look at.

It also had to adhere to BS 5534 best practice; in Layman’s terms, it had to be waterproof and secure.

“We’re very particular about quality and durability for all our roofing projects, and for this challenging installation, the choice was clear,” he said.

The material’s unique 170 micron functional layer means Tyvek® continually performs for way beyond twenty years of installation, whereas multi-layer products can lose the capacity to hold out water, and some fail less than five years after fitting.
