The intu shopping centre brand has given a new level of customer experience to its Merry Hill venue, by opening a Changing Places assisted accessible toilet by Closomat.
This enables shoppers who could need help with carers or equipment who toilet appropriately, with dignity also.
Without these toilets, it is estimated up to 14 million people throughout the UK who need support either cannot get the provision they need.
Supplied and installed by Closomat, intu Merry Hill’s facility is bigger than the British Standard requirement (3m x 4m).
With all the fixtures specified in the Standard for Changing Place compliance, including a water closet, height adjustable washbasin, ceiling track hoist, adult-sized height adjustable changing bench, a shower, height adjustable shower seat and a privacy screen, this is the ultimate offering from Britain’s leader in ultra-accessible away from home toilets.
The Changing Places compliments other accessible toilets situated in the shopping centre and was officially opened by Neil Davies, chairman at Dudley Voices for Choice, alongside member Sharon Davies, and project worker Claire Allen.
Dudley Voices for Choice is a user-led charitable organisation which supports people with learning disabilities and autism, many of whom will benefit from the Changing Places facility.
Neil described the new Changing Places in intu Merry Hill as a ‘welcome addition to the centre’, saying that people with disabilities can now spend the day here knowing all of their needs can be met in one place.
Naomi Campbell, community development manager at intu Merry Hill, added that this new space will ensure customers who need access to a Changing Places facility can enjoy a safe and comfortable shopping experience, with it being one of several measures being introduced, including training its staff to provide welcoming experiences for all.
