New leisure centre ‘tones up’ with Crown Trade

  • 22 Jan 2021

The refurbishment of a community leisure centre in Wiltshire has been given a paint finish that is more than fit or purpose, thanks to leading paint manufacturer Crown Paints.

The creation of the new Calne Community Campus will provide a variety of new facilities for the local area, including a new fitness suite and refurbished swimming pool and sports hall.

Working alongside main contractor MD Group, the Crown Specification team helped devise a high-performance paint specification to extend future maintenance cycles and keep the décor in perfect shape, both inside and out.

With cleanliness a top priority, Crown Trade’s Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt was the ideal choice for use throughout the centre, and has been applied in the fitness suite, sports hall and servery, as well as high-traffic areas such as corridors and reception.

The advanced formulation of Clean Extreme enables the painted surface to be repeated and rigorously cleaned without diminishing its flat matt appearance, helping the centre keep its facilities looking freshly decorated and hygienically clean.

For extra protection in areas where moisture and condensation could otherwise prove problematic, Crown Trade’s Clean Extreme Mould Inhibiting Acrylic Eggshell was specified for use in the changing rooms, toilet facilities and around the swimming pool.

Combining a high opacity matt formulation with a built-in fungicide that cannot be washed or wiped away, Clean Extreme Mould Inhibiting Acrylic Eggshell can help prevent the growth of mould and mildew and is also highly resistant to other stains appearing on the paint surface.

As the Clean Extreme range is fully water-based and offers a low-odour and quick-drying finish, it is ideally suited for use across large areas.

Here, it has been used in tandem with Crown Trade’s Fastflow Quick Dry Satin, which has been applied to the centre’s woodwork and trim areas.

With the interior paint package helping to keep the facilities looking good, it was also important that the building was given a high-performance finish to help protect it from the elements and create a great first impression.

With this is mind, the project team opted to use Sandtex Trade’s 365 All Weather Smooth Masonry paint on the main facades and Sandtex Eggshell X-Tra for the exterior woodwork.

Both products offer excellent and long-lasting protection against weathering, with the 365 All Weather Smooth Masonry paint benefitting from a Pliolite® resin formula which creates a microporous film to effectively block any wind-driven rain, while allowing moisture within the building to migrate to the surface without damaging the paintwork.

Joanne Thomas, Crown Paint specification sales manager, commented: “We are delighted to have been involved in the creation of new Calne Community Campus and to have worked closely with MD Group to offer an effective paint package.

“The products chosen have all been specifically developed to provide a durable finish that will last, helping to extend maintenance cycles and limit costs by reducing the need to redecorate so often.

“Our Clean Extreme range in particular is ideally suited to high-traffic areas and public-use buildings which now more than ever, need to have a robust cleaning regime in place.

“The completed leisure centre is real asset to the Calne area and we hope that the community get as much enjoyment from the building’s décor as they do the amazing facilities.”
